I'm Having a Wateraritta

The life force of all living things.  Enough cannot be said about the importance of water in each of our lives.  It is essential to our existence.  Our female bodies are made up of 55% water.  Babies are made up of the most 78%.  Men about 60%.  With this being said, fat tissue does not have as much water as lean tissue either.  A healthy person can drink about 3 gallons of water a day (48 cups).

Drinking too much water to quickly can cause water intoxication.  Water intoxication occurs when water dilutes the sodium level in the bloodstream and causes a water imbalance in the brain.  Water intoxication is most likely to occur during intense athletic performance.

While the daily recommended amount of water we should consume is 8 cups, all of this water does not have to be through drink.  You see we also acquire water from the foods that we consume.  Soft drinks, coffee and tea are mainly composed of water, however their addition of caffeine also makes them a mild diuretic, which prevents water from traveling to necessary parts of the body.

Water dissolves more substances than any other liquid.  Wherever it travels, water carries with it chemicals, minerals and nutrients.  More fresh water is stored beneath the earth surface in aquifers than on the earths surface.

Aquifer
The United States uses about 346 million gallons of water daily.  The average person in the U.S. uses  between 80-100 gallons of water a day.

By the time a person feels thirsty, his or her body as lost 1 percent of its total body water.  The weight a person loses directly after an intense athletic work out is water not fat.

Water is absolutely essential to the human bodies survival. A person can live a month without food but only about a week without water.   Water helps to maintain body weight by increasing metabolism and regulating appetite.

Water leads to increased energy levels.  The most common cause of daytime fatigue is actually mild dehydration.  Drinking adequate amounts of water can possibly decrease certain types of cancers, such as colon, breast and bladder cancer.

Drinking water can significantly decrease back pain, and joint pain.  Water flushes out  bacteria and viruses from our bodies that can cause disease.  Drinking water can alleviate headaches.

Water naturally moisturizes the skin and ensures proper cellular formation underneath layers of skin, to give it a healthy glow and appearance.

Water aids in the digestion process and prevents constipation.  Water is essential to moving all nutrients throughout the body and it's circulation.

So my point today is WATER is essential and many of us do not drink nearly enough of it.  I know before I was banded I rarely would drink any water.  I drank Soda as if it was my water.  I know people who use coffee like this or ice tea.  My mother drinks two gallons of ice tea daily, for example.

As "bandsters"  we have learned the importance of drinking water for our weight loss and overall health.  Some of us may still struggle to get all of our water in daily.

So drink up and remember when you choose something to drink how important WATER is to the function of our bodies.  I have made water my first choice since being banded.  I realize how essential it is to my weight and balance within my body.

Drinking ice water burns 12 calories to bring it to room temperature.

One secret to success with the Lap Band.....Water

Drink water, sip water, get it in anyway that you can.  Just make sure you are drinking.
