Update on Band dilema........another test!

I saw Dr.Marshall at 11:00 and he said that he wanted to get a Nuclear Gastric Emptying Study before he proceeds with surgery.  I am scheduled for this test Monday at 3:15 and I will see him on Tuesday morning at 11:45.  I am praying this will be the last test and then we can proceed to get relief from this situation.

We talked to day more at length about the revision surgery.  He is still dragging his feet about the sleeve, but did not say NO he would not do it.  He is just concerned about the anatomy and leaks.  He said leaks with the sleeve are more sever and harder to get to heal. He knows the sleeve is what I want and I think he will do it, but still am not certain what is going to happen.

I am hurting and was crying in his office, he made them schedule the test as soon as possible which is Monday.  I am hopeful that once we get the results he will move forward with revision, they have to send everything to my insurance and it has to be approved by the medical director of Humana.  I have spoke with Humana and they do cover this revision.  I hope that they will approve it and not give us any issues.

He did tell me it is possible for him to do the revision at the same time he removed the band, if he did not have to repair anything while he was in there.  If he would have to repair something from the band or if there is something that needs to heal from the band he would not, and let that heal and go back in.  That is something that he will not know for certain until he was to get in there.

This is all I know, it has been a very emotional day for me and I have spent alot of it crying.  I am tired of hurting.

Ohh sweetie... I am sorry. I hope relief is close. I cannot imagine how it feels. I do understand the sleeve thing though. It would be my choice of procedure if I didn't want more kids. It is something I think will be good for you to have that way you would not have to worry about all this pain anymore.
xoxoxo!!

I am sorry you're still in pain girl, that has to be so wearing on your mind, let alone body.

One word of precaution - a lot of the success with the Sleeve is dependent on the surgeon - such as what size bougie they use, what kind of staples and suture line they use, where exactly they make the incision on your stomach and what areas are removed (the gherlin producing area). Just from the outside looking in, it alarms me that your doc is THAT concerned about leaks and the surgery in general, and is so opposed to your wishes.

My doctor has done over 1500 sleeves and has only had ONE, count that ONE leak. That's way below even 1%. That one leak was due to the patient not following the rules and protocol post-op. And the large factor behind his success is attributed to his technique and experience.

I know you're desperate for relief from your pain and struggles, but I would hate to see ANYONE go forward with a surgery that has such risks to begin with - to add more gamble into that decision.

Again, this is just me trying to be as helpful as I can, I hope you don't think I am preaching or over-stepping any boundary, that is definitely NOT how I want to come across.

Either way, I wish you the best of luck girl! I hope your pain ends soon!!

hugs,
t

Poor thing :-( I am very sorry to hear what you are going through. I hope you are feeling better soon and that all works out with the band or with the revision to the sleeve. I am having band-troubles myself right now and I think I will have the revision to the sleeve as well. Wishing you best of luck. *Hugs*
